In the bright city of Sunnyville, everyone knew Captain Dynamo.

He was the strongest hero around. He could lift a bus with one hand. He could stop a runaway train with his feet. He could even catch three bouncing robots at once—though that had been a bit of an accident.

Every day, people cheered.

“Captain Dynamo!” they called.

“You’re amazing!”

Captain Dynamo stood tall, hands on his hips, cape blowing behind him.

“Yes, yes,” he said. “All in a day’s work!”

Beside him zipped his sidekick, Dash Doodle, moving so fast he was almost a blur.

“You missed a spot,” Dash said, pointing at a bent street sign.

Captain Dynamo bent it back with one finger. “There! Perfect!”

Dash smiled. “Almost perfect.”

Just then, something small floated through the air.

A tiny butterfly.

It drifted gently past Captain Dynamo’s face.

Captain Dynamo froze.

His eyes went wide.

His arms stiffened.

The butterfly flapped its soft wings and floated away.

Captain Dynamo slowly relaxed. He cleared his throat.

“Did you see that?” he whispered.

Dash blinked. “See what?”

“That… that flying thing.”

Dash looked around. “You mean the butterfly?”

Captain Dynamo leaned closer. “Don’t say its name so loud.”

Dash stared at him. “It’s just a butterfly.”

Captain Dynamo shook his head quickly. “No, no. Not just a butterfly. It’s… it’s…” He waved his hands. “It’s unpredictable!”

Dash raised an eyebrow. “It was floating.”

“It could have changed direction!” Captain Dynamo said. “Very suddenly!”

Dash tried not to laugh. “You’re scared of butterflies?”

Captain Dynamo stood up straight. “I am not scared.”

Another butterfly fluttered by.

Captain Dynamo yelped and ducked behind Dash.

Dash folded his arms. “You are.”

Captain Dynamo peeked out. “Maybe a little.”

Dash grinned. “A little?”

Captain Dynamo sighed. “Fine. A lot.”

Dash chuckled. “You can stop a train, but not a butterfly?”

“They’re too… fluttery!” Captain Dynamo said.

Dash shook his head, still smiling. “Your secret is safe with me.”

Before Captain Dynamo could reply, a loud alarm rang out.

WEE-OOO! WEE-OOO!

Dash tapped his wrist gadget. “Uh-oh. Trouble in the city garden.”

Captain Dynamo puffed up. “A mission!”

They zoomed across Sunnyville and landed in the big garden.

Flowers were everywhere—red, yellow, purple, and blue.

And in the middle of it all zoomed Flora-Bot X.

The robot spun in circles, spraying water in every direction.

“Watering plants! Watering plants!” it beeped loudly.

Water splashed everywhere. Puddles spread across the paths.

People slipped and slid.

And above it all…

Butterflies.

Dozens of them.

Maybe hundreds.

They fluttered over the flowers, over the robot, over everything.

Captain Dynamo froze again.

“Oh no,” he whispered. “This is the worst place.”

Dash looked around. “It’s just a garden.”

“It’s a butterfly garden,” Captain Dynamo said.

A butterfly drifted toward him.

He jumped.

Another fluttered near his shoulder.

He spun in a circle.

“They’re everywhere!” he whispered loudly.

“Focus,” Dash said. “We need to stop the robot.”

Captain Dynamo nodded quickly. “Yes. Right. The robot.”

He took one step forward.

A butterfly floated near his nose.

“AH!” Captain Dynamo leaped backward and hid behind a statue.

Dash sighed. “Really?”

“I’m thinking,” Captain Dynamo said from behind the statue.

“You’re hiding,” Dash replied.

“I’m strategically hiding,” Captain Dynamo said.

Dash pointed. “The robot is flooding the garden.”

Captain Dynamo peeked out.

Flora-Bot X zoomed past, spraying more water.

“Watering plants! Watering plants!”

More butterflies gathered.

More people slipped.

Captain Dynamo ducked again. “There are too many!”

“We can’t wait,” Dash said. “You have to go through them.”

Captain Dynamo shook his head fast. “No, no, no.”

He grabbed a trash can lid and held it like a shield.

“I will approach carefully.”

He stepped forward slowly.

A butterfly landed on the lid.

Captain Dynamo squeaked and dropped it.

Dash covered his face. “Oh boy.”

Just then, a small voice spoke.

“Why are you hiding?”

Captain Dynamo turned.

A girl stood nearby, watching him.

Her name was Zoe.

“I’m not hiding,” Captain Dynamo said quickly. “I’m… observing.”

Zoe tilted her head. “Are you scared of butterflies?”

Captain Dynamo laughed too loudly. “Me? Scared? Never!”

A butterfly floated between them.

Captain Dynamo ducked.

Zoe blinked. “You are.”

Captain Dynamo sighed. “Maybe a little.”

Zoe smiled kindly. “They won’t hurt you.”

“They fly at your face!” Captain Dynamo said.

“They don’t mean to,” Zoe said. “They’re just looking around.”

Captain Dynamo peeked at a butterfly.

It fluttered softly, landing on a flower.

Zoe held out her hand.

A butterfly landed gently on her finger.

“See?” she said. “If you stay still, they’re calm.”

Captain Dynamo swallowed. “Stay still?”

Zoe nodded.

Behind them, Dash called out, “Dynamo! The robot!”

Flora-Bot X zoomed faster, spraying even more water.

The garden was turning into a muddy mess.

People were slipping and shouting.

Butterflies filled the air.

Dash ran over. “We’re running out of time!”

Captain Dynamo looked at the butterflies.

Then at the robot.

Then at Zoe.

Zoe gave him a small nod.

“You can do it,” she said softly.

Captain Dynamo took a deep breath.

“Okay,” he whispered. “Okay.”

He stepped forward.

Butterflies fluttered around him.

His arms twitched.

His eyes squeezed shut.

“Stay still,” Zoe said.

Captain Dynamo froze in place.

One butterfly landed on his shoulder.

He gasped.

But he didn’t run.

Another brushed past his arm.

Nothing happened.

Slowly, he opened one eye.

“They’re… not attacking,” he whispered.

Dash smirked. “I told you.”

Captain Dynamo took another step.

Then another.

The butterflies moved around him like soft, floating leaves.

He reached Flora-Bot X.

“Hello, robot,” he said nervously.

“Watering plants! Watering plants!” the robot beeped.

Dash zipped beside him. “Press the blue button!”

Captain Dynamo nodded.

A butterfly landed on his hand.

He froze again.

“Press it!” Dash said.

Captain Dynamo looked at the butterfly.

It sat quietly, wings gently opening and closing.

He took a breath.

“It’s okay,” he told himself.

Very slowly, he pressed the blue button.

Click.

Flora-Bot X stopped.

The water stopped spraying.

The garden grew quiet.

The butterflies drifted calmly over the flowers.

People stood up, brushing off mud.

Then they cheered.

“Captain Dynamo!”

“You did it!”

Captain Dynamo stood still for a moment.

The butterfly lifted off his hand and floated away.

Dash grinned. “You saved the day.”

Captain Dynamo smiled. “We saved the day.”

Zoe walked up to him.

“You weren’t hiding that time,” she said.

Captain Dynamo rubbed the back of his neck.

“I was still scared,” he admitted.

Zoe nodded. “That’s okay.”

Dash added, “You did it anyway.”

Captain Dynamo stood a little taller.

“Being brave,” he said slowly, “doesn’t mean you’re not scared.”

“It means you keep going,” Zoe said.

Captain Dynamo smiled at her.

Just then…

A butterfly landed on his cape.

Captain Dynamo stiffened.

Dash waited.

Zoe watched.

Captain Dynamo looked over his shoulder.

The butterfly sat there quietly.

He took a breath.

Then he smiled.

“Okay,” he said. “That’s… not so bad.”

Dash laughed. “Look at you.”

Captain Dynamo crossed his arms proudly.

“I am Captain Dynamo,” he said. “Hero of Sunnyville.”

Another butterfly fluttered near his face.

He flinched just a tiny bit.

Dash snickered.

Zoe giggled.

Captain Dynamo sighed.

“Alright,” he said. “Maybe they’re still a little scary.”

The butterfly floated away.

And this time, Captain Dynamo didn’t run.
